Let Ministries (and Car Companies) Die

So the government is considering pumping $25B into the US auto industry after years and years of

opportunities (and legislation) to catch up with the rest of the auto world. Why don’t we allow these companies to feel the hurt and reform? Many of us do the same with ministries. We raise money to get something started. We recruit a bunch of people to get involved. The first couple years of the ministry are extremely fruitful, but as the years pass it seems to slowly die (for various reasons). That is the point where we can’t let go of those ministries we’ve started, thinking about the countless hours and resources spent. Perhaps it’s in God’s timing to let things grow and die so that new things can grow from it. Let reform(ation) happen.

What ministry are you not letting die?

Economic Trust

Today I saw on the Gallup website polls the following:

Consumer Confidence
5% Positive
80% Negative

Economic Conditions
13% Excellent/Good
57% Poor

Economic Outlook
8% Getting Better
88% Getting Worse

So here’s the question for you. How is it that you can trust God with your eternal salvation, but not your finances?

Rethink

Is what you do at church what church is supposed to be? If you had to change something about church what would it be? What would be your own expression of worship? Doesn’t it feel like you’re going to watch a movie when you go to church?

Step Up

Here’s a great quote from Mark Batterson’s blog evotional.com:

What is most lacking in the church of Jesus Christ is not education or resources. Keep learning, but we are educated way beyond the level of our obedience. And keep giving, but we do not lack the resources to alleviate poverty or fight injustice or spread the gospel. We are the most resourced church in the most resourced country the world has ever known. You what is most lacking? Good old-fashioned guts.”

Man, this rang so true! We’ve got more in our heads than our hearts! There are so many books to challenge our thinking, but what are we doing to challenge our hearts? Are you letting God perturb your heart? Are you more concerned about how much you know and regurgitating it or is your heart being filled with Godly compassion and boldness? I love new books and new thoughts, but it’s hard to ignore the truth that is spoken in the Bible.
